The Coast Guard is one of the oldest established agencies of the United States Government and, as it states on its homepage, “since 1790 the Coast Guard has safeguarded our Nation’s maritime interests and environment around the world.” Over the centuries, its mission has expanded with the times and today also includes recreational boating safety.
