In response to continuing questions about PFDs, we’ve expanded our discussion (on the menu bar) and offer illustrations of various kinds of both inflatable and foam PFDs you might want to consider.
Rowers often chafe at the suggestion of PFDs, but PFDs needn’t actually chafe rowers. As new materials and designs continue to make them lighter and more comfortable, the frequently heard objections are getting harder to support.
We’ll come back to this subject again, of course, but in the meantime our profile of PFDs offers options you may want to consider.

ps, pictured above is my personal Mocke Racer, which is a couple of years old. The Mocke Racer isn’t USCG or CE approved but is ISO approved, NCRS approved for South Africa, and ICF approved. (Note; this post originally misidentified ICF as the International Coaching Federation. It stands for the International Canoeing Federation.)
